I m reading this on July 9, the day the vote is to be taken. News last night said Obama will vote for the FISA bill. I was rabidly for Obama before, now I will stay home in November. They are all alike.

Matt, I think environmentalists, in this instance, make a convenient whipping boy. I don't doubt they impede getting new refineries into being. Maybe having a watchdog of their ilk with concern for our environment is not all a bad thing. But, yeah there is a but, but as the telecom's have proved, if the big money interests want something badly enough they will have it. I can think of billion$ of reasons though why the oil industry would not want any more refineries. And from a persepective of our national security, it seems odd that we would want to concentrate so much of our refinery capacity along the Gulf of Mexico coast.
I bet we could save a lot of money if we put all of or military bases all in one place and parked our airplanes in a row like we did just prior to Pearl Harbor.

We get America back when our elected representatives go back to representing us instead of the monied interests. Right now the Democrats are crying they can not do anything because they hold such a slim majority in both houses and yet one man, Senator Coburn of Oklahoma, is holding up the passage of legislation to revisit cold cases from the civil rights era.
(http://thinkprogress.org/2007/12/10/coburn-puts-hold-on-civil-rights-cold-cases-bill/) He thus proves the power one man can have in the Senate.

It is time for the Democrats to pull up their collective pantyhose and bring their power to bear on their agenda. It is time to do the right thing on all kinds of issues, from the S-Chip Program to the warrant less wire-tapping and retroactive immunity for the big communications companies. It is time for our well paid senators and congressmen to actually read the legislation before then sign it. It is time to hold accountable those in their own respective chambers who have abused their powers. When that happens we get our country back.
