Well, I think I finally have something to say that requires a few more than 140 characters. Yes, I’m doing this for my friends on Twitter. And to understand this you probably need to be following these people and the conversations.
The main purpose of this is primarily to explain my reluctance with Obama. Come November I will be voting Democratic and may even work up enough enthusiasm to knock on doors and if I am not an elections judge this time around at least drive people to the polls to help get the vote out. So what’s the problem?
Shoq and cohort have posted Obama’s accomplishments/promises kept on a yet to be released wiki. I’m sure Obama has done quite a bit.
I’ve also tweeted with Karoli about what for me has taken the bloom off the rose in regards to Obama, what I perceive is his lack of follow through on issues related to presidential power. I think this clip from The Daily Show illustrates what I mean.
The Daily Show: Obama’s Broken Promises
When Bill O’Reilly and others on the right are skewered by Stewart we cheer and yet when he does it to one of our own we are less than ready to acknowledge the Emperor wears no clothes. Obama is our guy in power and if he starts acting like he’s Bush 44 rather than Obama 44 I think it is only appropriate that we should be the ones to hold him to account. Stewart calls Obama on his stand on Habeas Corpus, Renditions, Warrant less Wiretaps, and Whistle blowers. If it were Bush in the White House we’d be tweeting about it, blogging, and looking for a candidate to support with the promise of changing this. That was our candidate. So when Obama falls back on these promises it stings doubly so. At least from Bush we did not expect a whole lot more.
This is not a case of Mom drunk or sober. No, if Mom’s a drunk we ought to be getting her help to dry out.
