Do Something

By richmc

The last new oil refinery was built in 1976. Since then several refineries have been shuttered. And then do you remember when Katrina hit and gasoline prices went up because we lacked refinery capacity? What has been done since? NOTHING!
Then today in the news we read a report that Honda is rolling its first new fuel cell vehicle off the production line, the FCX Clarity. The article went on to report Honda would get up to full production by 2018. So what is the United States going to do wait until 2018 for Honda to supply us with vehicles that will get better gas mileage? It is time to get someone leading this country who has some vision and can get things moving in the right direction. I do not think that person is John McCain.

Matt, I think environmentalists, in this instance, make a convenient whipping boy. I don’t doubt they impede getting new refineries into being. Maybe having a watchdog of their ilk with concern for our environment is not all a bad thing. But, yeah there is a but, but as the telecom’s have proved, if the big money interests want something badly enough they will have it. I can think of billion$ of reasons though why the oil industry would not want any more refineries. And from a persepective of our national security, it seems odd that we would want to concentrate so much of our refinery capacity along the Gulf of Mexico coast.
I bet we could save a lot of money if we put all of or military bases all in one place and parked our airplanes in a row like we did just prior to Pearl Harbor.
